Dishin' Out Delicious Meals For All The Right Reasons.

As a team, we have earned our share of hardware at the fairgrounds, including winning several culinary and showmanship grand champion awards. Although we strive to create the best tasting BBQ, a fire was lit to do something so much more.

How It Started

Where Purpose & Passion Collided.

In 2004, a group of 8 individuals had a vision of doing something far greater than producing award winning BBQ. The team was inspired to do something for the youth at the Fort Bend County fair. One night, Jack D. decided they needed to find out if any youngsters needed help with their projects the following year leading up to the fair. Six students were identified: financial aid was provided, feed was delivered, pins and coupes were built and mended. A tradition was born.

Since that day, It's The Pits Cookers has “purchased” and donated back nearly 200 animals from students at the Fort Bend County Fair that made neither the main auction nor the freezer sale. Some of these students have come back not only to win their weight classes the following year, but some have gone so far as to win Reserve Grand Champion! This puts the student in the position to earn a nice cash award for their college education. At the end of the day, we have been able to make a difference for many young exhibitors.

Why do we feel so compassionate for this particular cause? Its simple. We have seen time and time again the caliber of individuals that come through an agricultural program, rise up, and develop into leaders within our community.

Meet Hugh Alexander III

The loss of one of our own.

Hugh Alexander III left this world on December 1, 2022. He will be greatly missed by all he touched. Hugh was a great friend, mentor, philanthropist and a pretty darn good chef. What he brought to our cooking team was truly amazing. Hugh was a very classy individual that always looked after our presentation as a team. His attention to detail was unbelievable and the ideas he came up with for the support of Veterans (Hugh was a Navy Veteran) and the Fort Bend County Youth were fantastic. Hugh truly made us better. We miss him dearly. One of his last “suggestions” when we were trying to find another way to support Veterans was to sponsor a service dog for a Fort Bend/Texas Veteran.

This year we are proud to say we have brought Hugh’s idea to reality and are sponsoring a service dog through Southeastern Guide Dog Service for a Fort Bend or Texas Veteran. Thank you Hugh is hardly enough, but THANKS old friend.
